Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Regional Section for Africa and the Middle East (RSAME), in the Integrated Programme and Oversight Branch (IPB), Division for Operations (DO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria. The Project Officer will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of RSAME, as well as in close consultation with the Representative of the UNODC Country Office in Nigeria (CONIG), in Abuja.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in social sciences, economics, international relations, law, political science, statistics, public administration, management or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in technical cooperation and programme management, at the international and/or national levels is required. Work experience in the areas of drug control activities, crime or terrorism prevention, law enforcement, criminal justice, security sector, governance, public administration, peace-building, conflict prevention or other related areas, is required. Field experience in the above areas is highly desirable. Experience with multi-million portfolios is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency, is required. Working knowledge of French is highly desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Internship: Socially Sustainable Development Programme / Social and Solidarity Economy
UNRISD is now accepting applications for two internship positions, starting in April 2015 and in July 2015, to assist with the project on “Potential and Limits of Social and Solidarity Economy”, including related work on social and solidarity finance (www.unrisd.org/sse](http://www.unrisd.org/sse)) under the supervision of Pascal van Griethuysen, Research Coordinator.
While at UNRISD, the intern will be asked to:
- provide research assistance for the project indicated above;
- conduct library and Internet searches and assist with drafting and editing potential publications; and
- contribute to ongoing work tasks related to project management, fundraising activities, external relations, and event organization.
Qualifications, skills and competencies:
- Education in public policy, development studies, economics, sociology, political science or a related field at an accredited university, and academic and professional experience in relevant issues.
- We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in social and solidarity economy, and connections with finance and sustainable development (including ethical banking, financial cooperatives, microfinance, complementary currencies, etc.).
- Written and spoken fluency in English is essential, good working knowledge of French and Spanish is desirable.

This UNRISD internship is in accordance with the rules and regulations of the UN Internship Programme.
- At the time of application, applicants must meet one of the following requirements (as per UN Secretariat rules regarding interns)
(i) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
(ii) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
(iii) have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (i) and (ii) above) and, if selected, commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. - Interns are not financially remunerated.
- UNRISD is not responsible for interns' travel expenses to and from Geneva, or for mandatory medical insurance during the period of the internship.
