Job Summary
To provide peri -operative nursing care to patients.

Requirements

Minimum requirements

• Diploma in general nursing plus diploma in theatre nursing
• 2 years post qualification experience in theatre nursing.
• Registration with Botswana Nursing Council

Key Effectiveness Areas

• Recommends and incorporates cost saving initiatives into budgets.
• Conducts pre- operative and post- operative visits to surgical patients to provide information on the specific procedure to be performed, support and reassurance to the patient as necessary.
• Prepares and coordinates preparation for the theatre list taking into cognizance the surgical procedures to be performed.
• Aids the surgeon during surgical operations and acts as an advocate for the patient.
• Prepares packs for and coordinates sterilization of packs, sets and instruments used during procedures for theatre and other hospital units.
• Monitors and interprets the testing of the sterilizing machines for efficiency
• Ensures that control of infection is maintained by overseeing the testing of equipment and environmental cleanliness with laboratory prepared sets.
• Maintains stock levels within the nursing unit and monitors stock usage.
• Records use of stock on charge sheets.
• Coordinates and monitors the implementation of safety, health and environmental programs in area of responsibility taking cognizance of all legal requirements.
• Establishes and maintains business partner relationships with all key stakeholders to facilitate the optimal functioning of the nursing section.
