Chief Underground Mine Geologist


Position for a Chief Mine Geologist with 7 years experience in an underground hard rock mechanised mining environment and a B.Sc. (Hons) Geology degree or a relevant degree (B.Sc.).

Job Description:
  • Day to day management of the Geology Department and Technical Team within a collaborative manner of the Mining Operations
  • Manage the diamond drilling processes from drilling to core management, updating information on the geological database to ensure safe, efficient and productive work
  • Develop an efficient and suitable method for Grade Control drilling and modelling of the orebody to ensure on time delivery of quality information to the mining teams
  • Manage the performance of the orebody and geological models in line with company requirements
  • Resource conversion to reserve grade control drilling
  • Develop and design underground diamond drilling programmes as required for exploration
  • Establish and implement systems, processes and procedures
  • Quality management
  • Monitor and control ore and waste streams
  • Ensure efficient mine mapping and processing of mine data
  • Manage Health, Safety and Environmental standards
  • Provide training to ensure opportunities for continuous growth within the organisation
  • Mentor and develop individual and team capability  
  • Manage departmental costs in line with approved budgets
  • Manage annual capital and operating budgets
  • Maintain networks and connections to new technologies and trends related to Geology
Minimum Requirements:
  • B.Sc. (Hons) Geology degree or a relevant degree (B.Sc.)
  • Professional or technical registration with an internationally recognised Geological Body
  • Qualified for QP Sign Off
  • Additional specialised training will be advantageous
  • 10 years postgraduate experience
  • 7 years in an underground hard rock mechanised mining environment (predominantly base metals or Gold experience)
  • Africa mining experience essential
  • Demonstrate strength in structural geology, mine operational geology, geological database and orebody modelling and geology department management
  • Geological software suite experience
  • Valid driver’s licence
