Job purpose and key deliverables	This role will be responsible for the interpretation and support to the  company on Commercial legal matters.  It will manage the company's exposure to liabilities and damages through its relationships with third parties.  The position is that of a legal generalist with a focus on corporate legal issues. The position is that of a Legal generalist with a focus on corporate legal issues.   Key Deliverables Advise Leadership Team of area of responsibility proactively and at a strategic level of legal matters affecting them.  Responsibility for the drafting or perusal of all general commercial agreements the company may  wish to enter into with third parties.  Advise cross functionally within the area of responsibility on how the company can mitigate the risk of legal liability.  Assist cross functionally within the area of responsibility with the interpretation of relevant legislation as the need arises.  Assist the financial department with the collection of debt and related legal matters.  Manage general litigation within the area of responsibility as it may arise.  Monitor the impact new legislation may have on the company and communicate the impact effectively to the relevant business units.  The position is responsible for advice on company law and development in Corporate Governance with a specific focus on director’s liability.   Engage functional leadership teams in BATSA as well as leadership teams of BAT Service companies based in South Africa to plan legal resource allocation in accordance with the requirements of these activities.
Essential requirements	Grade 12 certificate.  Must be admitted to practice law in SA(Bachelor of Laws/LLB) with 2-5 years experience.   Prior experience gained in corporate and commercial Legal Matters.
Desirable requirements	Knowledge of contract law, property law, commercial law, taxation, litigation, company law.   Proven experience in structuring  and drafting of procurement contracts, ie vendors tenders and litigation processes.   Manage, oversee and formulate internal legal related processes and procedures.   Experience in negotiating, drafting and advising on a broad range of commercial contracts.
