Job purpose and key deliverablesJob Purpose
The purpose of the Electrician is to maintain, upgrade and rebuild manufacturing equipment and all electrical installations to provide a high level of cost effective electrical support and service to the factory.
Analyze blue prints, schematics, and drawings of electrical systems for the purpose of determining the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems. Coordinate with foreman and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
Diagnose causes of electrical problems or failures for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair. Monitor the electrical work of contractors for the purpose of ensuring that the projects are satisfactory completed and within district specifications.
Inspect electrical systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance. Install electrical system components (e.g. lighting, alarms, electrical panels, switches, circuits, timers, etc.) for the purpose of providing enhanced and/or upgraded electrical capabilities.
Key Deliverables

  • Identify electrical components for switch cabinets and machines to ensure reliable electrical control systems. 
  • Determine component layouts for switch cabinets to comply with the prescribed standards and to ensure easy access and maintenance. 
  • Build new switch cabinets as upgrades for manufacturing equipment to ensure reliable and cost-effective machine control systems to all clients. 
  • Rewire manufacturing equipment to CE standards to continuously enhance productivity, quality, safety and reliability of manufacturing equipment.
  • Install manufacturing equipment in the Africa region as part of MT & D's support to the region. 
  • Train electrotechnical staff, from clients, on locally designed systems to give them the ability to efficiently maintain the refurbished manufacturing equipment. 
  • Ensure compliance with EHS standards to minimise risk. 
  • Communicate and liaise effectively with relevant functions to keep all stakeholders informed and to address and seek solutions for problems of mutual interest for continuous improvement.
Essential requirementsKnowledge, Skills & Experience   

  • Matric/Grade 12 
  • Qualified electrician with minimum N3 or equivalent 
  • Minimum 3 years in a manufacturing environment 
  • Sound knowledge of electrical control components 
  • Wireman’s Certificate – Master Electrician 
  • Knowledge AC/DC drives
