ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER - KHOEMACAU COPPER MINING

To be successful, the Khoemacau Copper Mining needs suitably qualified people to form part of its team. Currently the company is looking to recruit a Environmental Officer.

ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER

Purpose of the role:
To oversee and maintain the site’s environmental management programs by facilitating the implementation of the mining environmental programs and procedures. Provide support to all levels of area management in completion of HSEC initiatives for the monthly HSEC priorities.

Requirements

Key areas of responsibility:

• Ensure company mandated environmental compliance for all site related activities are adhered to
• Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every worker under or assigned to his/her supervision
• Deliver assigned work and reports within defined time limits
• Play a leading role in upholding environmental-friendly standards and responsibilities
• Scan the work environment for possible threats and ensure protection of the work environment by all stakeholders
• Ensure all Contractors comply to good environmental standards
• Plan work activities to achieve set goals within defined time limits, plan for resources required for completion of tasks, request resources in time for completion of goals
• Use a systems approach to problem solving, and strive for continuous improvement

Minimum qualifications, experience and skill requirements:

• Minimum of a Degree in Environmental Science/ Management or any earth science related field
• Minimum of 3 years work experience in a mining environment or environmental monitoring and management setup

Communication:

• Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
• Proficiency in community liaison issues and stakeholder involvement for projects execution

Technical Skills:

• Conversant with most HSEC Management systems including ISO 14001, OSHAS 18001 and ISO 9001 standards; Noise and Vibration Monitors, GPS and Total Station instruments, Groundwater Monitoring, Budgeting and financial effectiveness, Natural Resources Management and Aspects Monitoring and Analysis

Teamwork:

• Good interpersonal skills; Client/Stakeholder Oriented, Conversant with Corporate Supremacy principles, proactive, ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment characterized by sensitivity and respect for diversity.

Khoemacau Copper Mining (Pty) Ltd is a Botswana registered company that holds the rights to prospecting licences in North West Botswana. The company comprises two operations, namely the Boseto operation and the Zone 5 (Qhoree) operation.
