JOB SUMMARY:
GRI is currently seeking a short or long term Gender and Local Communities Advisor for the anticipated 18-month USAID-funded Capacity Building for Responsible Minerals Trade Project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This position will be based in Goma, North Kivu Province.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Oversee strategic development and program deliverables for gender and local communities’ programs
· Conduct gender and social impact assessment for mining sector in the DRC
· Support the development of regulations and controls of the mining industry that help ensure equitable participation and protections for women and vulnerable groups
· Monitor budgets, grants and expenditures
· Serve as primary point of contact (POC) for gender and local communities
· Maintain collaborative relationships with project staff
· Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual reports, work-plans, and success stories as required by client and GRI
· Travel to field stations to ensure successful delivery of program results
· Perform other duties as assigned by DCoP
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Masters in mining engineering, geology, environmental sciences, management, economics, social sciences, gender, communications, or similar required.
· Seven (7) years experience related to social and gender impact of mining and minerals trade; 10 years preferred.
· Experience conducting gender and social impact assessments for the mining and minerals industry required.
· Proven knowledge of international standards and metrics for gender and corporate social responsibility
· Additional experience with entrepreneurship, health, leadership, WASH, or similar preferred.
· Prior management experience preferred.
· Fluency in English and Spanish and/or French required.
· Prior experience working on development programs and mines preferred.
· Excellent management and administrative skills.
· High level of interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and business acumen to effectively interact with all levels of staff, U.S. and foreign government personnel, members of donor organizations, funders, policy makers, and business.
· Self-motivated and well organized.
· Ability to work collaboratively, supportively, and respectfully with others.
· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
· Flexibility and willingness to travel to difficult environments to complete program assignments.
