These positions are located in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations and Special Political Missions. Mission Planning Officers report to the Mission Chief of Staff or the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG). In larger or more complex Missions, s/he may report through a Senior Mission Planning Officer. (In some settings, the Senior Mission Planning Officer and planning officers of the United Nations Country Team may be co-located in a Joint Planning Unit.)
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in social sciences, political science, international relations, economics, finance, management, development studies, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of relevant, progressively responsible professional experience, including in planning, evaluation, programme management or policy development at the strategic level as well as facilitating and coordinating multi-stakeholder planning processes in peace consolidation settings, is required. Experience implementing relevant UN Secretariat policies, procedures and operations, including legislative and budgeting processes, is required.
