Position # 1131-130
Uniterra Volunteer Cooperant (VC/OS)
(Position without gender preference)
The Uniterra international voluntary program (www.uniterra.ca) aims to contribute to poverty reduction and sustainable development through national and regional sectoral approaches in 12 developing countries with the support of 2,400 volunteers. The Uniterra program focuses on strengthening the capacity of 125 key organizations that work in private sector development, governance, health, and education. The program will reach over 200,000 direct beneficiaries and over a million indirect beneficiaries in developing countries and inform and engage millions of Canadians on issues that touch people in the developing world. The Uniterra program is jointly operated by the Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI) and World University Services of Canada (WUSC).
Volunteers are not paid for their services. However, they receive a subsistence allowance based on the cost of living in the host country. For long-term assignments, allowances can be increased to take account of the presence of dependent persons recognized by the program. In addition to the subsistence allowance, Uniterra assumes volunteers’ travel costs to and from their position as well as coverage under an insurance program. Several capacity assessments of national organizations and networks, NGOs, Community Based Organizations, and Faith- Based Organizations carried out in Botswana over the past two years have identified critical shortfalls in the following organizational development areas: general leadership (organizational management and governance structures);program/project management; financial management; resource mobilization; organizational systems (including monitoring and evaluation skills, human resources , policy and procedures etc.); and networking and coordination.
A key area identified both in the assessments and by the organizations themselves is Resource Mobilization. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review the baseline situation of Resource Mobilization for each of the organizations (OCA Reports, RM Training Report etc).
- Create or update a customized set of user-friendly RM tools for all four organizations.
- Support all four organizations in the processes and activities involved in RM by assisting them with their needs as they request assistance.
- Provide basic or advanced training (as appropriate) for officers in need of RM training and/or coaching (as requested).
- Secure the participation and representation of women and men in all activities.
- Draft reports required by the host organizations, Maatla and the Uniterra program.
