VACANCY CIRCULAR NO. 2 of 2016 - VACANCY: PRINCIPAL MINING ENGINEER II (MINING) -100400051.1.2 AND 100400044.1.1 (2 Post)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates, (preferably citizens of the Republic of Botswana) for the above post at the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, Department of Mines tenable at Gaborone.
The Department of Mines exists to license and monitor mining operations, ensure their compliance with the environment, health and safety standards and administer related Acts and Regulations.
Salary Scale: D3 (P207, 564 – P229, 152)
Leave: 30 working days per annum.
Benefits: 1. Optional contributory medical aid scheme (Government pays 50% and employee pays 50%)
2. Contributory pension scheme for permanent and pensionable appointments. (Government pays 15% and employee pays 5%)
3. Attraction and retention scarce skill allowance (40% of basic salary, subject to terms and conditions applicable to Government terms of employment)
Qualifications: Degree in Mining Engineering/Metallurgy/ Mechanical Engineering/ Chemical Engineering. MSc in Mining Engineering/Metallurgy/ Mechanical Engineering/ Chemical Engineering will be an added advantage.
Experience: Four (4) years’ experience in the field of mining industry or related fields.
Main Purpose of the job: The primary purpose of this job is to monitor the application process of the mineral concessions and their operations for compliance with legislation and standards.
Core Areas of responsibilities:
Monitors the processing of applications for operating licenses.
Provides information to customers.
Provides advice on Mining programmes to the public
Attends customer enquiries.
Analyses the inspection reports for conformity to standards, regulations and code of practice.
Monitors the use of mining equipment and machinery
Verifies and analyses data on Mining programmes and technologies.
Monitors and maintains data on existing Mining programs and latest technologies.
Makes follow up on cases of illegal mining and recommends appropriate action.
Monitors the implementation of Mining projects.
