SENIOR MINING MANAGER (PROJECTS) – GBF 5 REF: JWNG000245

Job Summary To manage and develop the mining discipline through the provision of strategic, mining technical guidance and managerial leadership, within the framework of the organization’s strategic plan, legal requirements, best mining and engineering principles, processes and technologies.

Minimum Requirements  Mining Engineering Degree or equivalent  Mining experience in large open pit environment – Minimum 5 years  10 years covering most of key mining functions with 2 years at divisional head level or equivalent  Blasting License Holder

Key Activities  Interprets operational requirements and integrates with discipline base financial needs to ensure availability of financial resources to meet business objectives  Responsible for, approves and monitors the utilization of allocated funds to enable the attainment of departmental objectives  Contributes to the formulation of strategies for the mine to meet the Company’s medium and long term strategic plans  Formulates and aligns the departmental strategy and gives direction in its implementation  Analyses developments and changes in the mining industry, assessing their possible impact on the mining strategy and adapts the strategy to respond to the challenges
 Provide support to execution units in the formation of prime contracts, particularly to the extent formation may affect successful management of the prime contract, including participating in the proposal, prime contract review, joint venture and/or subcontract partnering, and risk assessment process  Work with Management and Project teams to identify and maintain prime contracts of high value, Provide claims identification, development and presentation support to the Contract team, assisting in the management and resolution of claims as required  Directs the initiation of projects, ensuring that all projects are managed and executed in accordance with best practice principles  Coordinates the developments of systems and structures required for the identification of industry best practices  Promote, Coordinate and Manage a culture of safety consciousness and environmental awareness in area of responsibility  Manages key effectiveness areas of subordinates by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary  Directs departmental subordinates to achieve individual and team objectives by: o Ensuring the right competence and effectiveness of manpower (capacity building) through developing and implementing career, localization/succession, training and development plans; recruitment and placements o Co-ordinate, lead and manage mine operations working towards agreed performance and production targets  Provides the framework for application of knowledge management principles to ensure effective knowledge capture, exchange and adaptation  Provides the framework for identification and implementation of creative and innovative ideas and processes to ensure continuous business improvement  Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all key stakeholders and partners to ensure achievement of business objectives
