Graduate Trainee Scheme

In May 2008, the Botswana Communications  Regulatory Authority launched a Graduate Trainee Scheme; a programme that was designed to attract fresh graduates into the telecommunications regulation industry. Once recruited, graduates would undergo  "on-the-job" mentoring as well as intensive academic training necessary to bridge their passage to telecommunications regulation. Based on the success of the initial programme, the BOCRA management decided to continue the Graduate Training scheme on a " as-needed " basis through which fresh graduates are invited to join the telecommunications industry.

The Graduate Package

On top of the benefits that the BOCRA offers, the Graduate Trainees also receive an attractive allowance as well as a comprehensive graduate induction programme, where they:

The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders is the flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). Initiated by President Obama in 2010, YALI aims to support young African leaders as they spur growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across Africa.
In the summer of 2017, the Mandela Washington Fellowship will bring up to 1,000 young African leaders to the United States for six weeks of academic coursework and leadership training at a US university or college, focusing on one of three tracks: Business and Entrepreneurship, Civic Leadership, or Public Management. The intensive Institute model combines academic sessions, leadership training, site visits, professional networking, community service, and cultural activities to maximize learning and cultural exchange. Up to 100 Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in additional six-week professional development experiences at US NGOs, private companies, and government agencies.
The 2,000 Mandela Washington Fellow alumni from 2014-2016 include entrepreneurs, innovators, NGO leaders, community activists, journalists, agriculture specialists, health professionals, educators, civil servants, and political leaders from all 49 sub-Saharan African countries.
For many young African leaders, the Fellowship is a life-changing experience. A 2016 Fellow remarked, “The Mandela Washington Fellowship has given me the knowledge and networks that will help me excel. I know now that there are no limits to what I will achieve.”

The Role
To provide expert advice, guidance and coaching to line managers, and ensure quality delivery of activities within their area of expertise and other HR related projects
Key Responsibilities:
  • To provide HR-related advice and support to managers and employees
  • To provide quality recruitment support to line managers to ensure timeous filling of vacancies.
  • Participating in interviews and assessments and advise on the selection of potential candidates
  • Facilitate effective performance management processes within the region through tracking progress, provide support and ensure compliance to the Global Processes
  • Manage Head Count and manage associated risks to ensure optimal resources and compliance to contracts and service levels at customer sites
  • Advise managers in competence issues, succession and talent management
  • Handle and solve disciplinary cases and grievances within the area of responsibility
  • Attend CCMA sessions as a representative of Sandvik, and effectively manage the processes of conciliation and arbitration
  • Facilitate and manage processes such as incapacity, disability, retrenchments and labour movements
  • Submit HR reports (Head count, Recruitment, Turnover, etc)
Your profile:
  • 5-8 years as a HR professional at a generalist/professional level
  • A recognised degree in HR or related field
  • In-depth knowledge of the relevant acts and legislation regulating employment in South Africa (i.e. the Labour Act, the Skills Development Act, the Employment Equity Act, Basic Conditions of Employment, etc)
  • Experience in dealing with HR in a complex environment
  • Working well under pressure
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Very good MS Office skills and good knowledge of PeopleSoft
  • Excellent command of English (both verbal and written)
  • Willingness to travel to remote sites
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
