The Pan African University is a scholarship awarding institution to students in Africa and the African diaspora. The proposed stipends and tuition fees are based on analysis of existing scholarship rates that are managed by the Commission of the African Union.
PAU student admission and enrollment are done on a competitive basis. Calls for scholarship applications are issued and widely disseminated by the Rectorate and students apply online. The second stage of the process is handled at the level of the Institutes who establish juries of local, regional and international experts to select students. The Institute Boards submit the final list of selected students to the Rectorate, and the Senate makes recommendations on student admissions to the Council.
Students are admitted from all African countries with no more than 20% from the Host Country and gender balance in the percentage of students admitted is an important consideration. Each PAU student signs a scholarship agreement with the AUC, obliging the beneficiaries to work in Africa upon the completion of their studies. Students receive a monthly stipend to cover their living expenses for the entire duration of their study, including tuition, research and transport fees. Students are awarded joint degrees of PAU and the Host Universities.
