Takes accountability for the management of a programme of 40 or more small and medium SIB projects at a mining operation of a total value of more than US$ 100 million. This would include responsibility for setting-up the necessary project office organisation structures, project processes and supporting control systems to ensure capital is managed effectively and to align and leverage opportunities between the projects that make up the programme to maximise value to the organization.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree in Engineering- Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, A & I, Process or Geosciences
- Project Management qualification
- 8 years’ experience in construction/Engineering Project Management environment, Construction management, general management, contractor management and mining and related operations environment
- Project Controls training
- Safety Health and Environment training
Key activities
- Develops an integrated 5 year budget for the Operation SIB capital projects programme to meet the operation’s business needs in line with the organisation’s strategic objectives
- Manages and controls PMO allocated funds and Operation’s capital budget by developing cost improvement plans and operates within approved parameters
- Manages SIB portfolio work to optimise portfolio approved cash fl ow to achieve medium to long term organisational objectives
- Develops short to long term portfolio forecast and release portfolio projects according to prioritisation at appropriate board approval stages in line with portfolio management principles, company policies (Capital Management System/Investment Proposals), technical evaluation and industry standards
- Applies continuous business process improvement of portfolio and project processes to improve project execution maturity within the PMO and across the operation
- Manages the allocation of projects to project managers, project engineers and other project leads and manages the project support services of the PMO
- Analyses projects capital reports, compiles portfolio report, share the information with stakeholders and ensure corrective action is implemented
- Tracks realisation of project benefits, assesses impact on portfolio risks and opportunities and approves project capital changes within his/her delegated authority
- Recruits and develops resources to ensure that they are capable and available to execute and support the all the projects
