POLICY SPECIALIST – LIBRARY AND INFORMATION

The above vacancy exists in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture under the National Library of Botswana. The Department exists to provide a nation-wide library and information service for purposes of promoting literacy, education, research and leisure reading; and acquiring and preserving for posterity information materials about Botswana.

A talented, proactive, self-driven and visionary candidate is therefore sought to fill the above mentioned position.

Salary Scale: E1 (P 349, 704 – P363, 840 per annum)

Leave: 30 working days per annum.

Benefits:
a) Optional Contributory Medical Aid Scheme. (Government pays 50%, Employee pays 50%).
b) A contract of 24 – 36 months with gratuity payable at the rate of 25% upon the expiry of contract.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Studies or related. A Master’s Degree in a relevant field would be an added advantage.

Experience: A minimum of fourteen (14) years relevant post qualification experience, two (2) of which should have been served at the level of E2 in the Public Service or equivalent level in a Parastatal or Private sector organisation.

Purpose of the Job:

To provide leadership in the development of the national library and information service, giving strategic guidance in the implementation of library policies and programmes.

Key performance areas:

• Provides guidance in the implementation of library programmes responsive to customer needs
• Oversees the implementation of Botswana National Library Service Act.
• Oversees the development and implementation of the Departmental strategy and annual performance plan in alignment to the ministry’s strategic plan.
• Initiates formulation, review and implementation of the National Library Policy and legislation.
