Senior Finance Manager, Southern Africa
We are currently seeking a Senior Finance Manager for the anticipated USAID-funded Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub Program. The project’s primary focus will be to provide expert technical assistance to help farmers and firms, through private sector associations, to efficiently meet market requirements of quality and volume and succeed in the regional and international market place. To achieve this objective, technical components will include improving the enabling environment for regional trade; enhancing the integration and competitiveness of regional value chains; and increasing international and regional trade. Director for this program include but are not limited to the following:
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement activities that support investment, productivity, and competitiveness in targeted agricultural value chains, building upon existing credit guarantee programs where appropriate, with a focus on large and medium-sized transactions.
- Support private sector partners, in part through the Partnership Fund, to improve market and finance mechanisms, such as warehouse receipt systems, commodity exchanges, regional finance and payment systems, and reliable market information.
- Support increased access to financing for large and medium-term lending and working capital.
- Work with local and international development partners to assist banks in better serving the needs of SMEs and start-ups, establishing a niche that is focused on serving the project’s target agribusinesses.
- Strengthen capacity of start-ups and SMEs to produce the financial documents and business plans required to attract increased lending and equity investments.
- Assess the impact of financial products and pilot efforts and make adjustments as needed to expand the outreach of finance providers to underserved markets.
- Address obstacles to finance faced by women and ensure outreach is gender inclusive.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in commercial banking and agricultural finance. Strong knowledge of financial sector and investment climate in Southern Africa and experience with SME finance and agribusiness development.
- Experience with credit guarantee mechanisms and the ability to provide technical assistance to banks to support these programs.
- Fluency in English required.
