Job Summary
Carries out minor repairs, services and installations on plant machinery/equipment.

Minimum requirements
 Trade Test B (MTTC qualification) or equivalent
 1 (one) year post qualification experience in an engineering environment or successful
completion of the Operative Development Programme (ODP).
 Driver’s License
Key Effectiveness Areas
 Participates in the control of sectional costs by optimising resource utilisation in the area
of work
 Performs visual inspections on any equipment/ machinery/ environment in order to
establish any defects, assessing specific requirements and reporting findings as
 Removes and replaces defective components/parts as directed by the relevant
 Confirms availability of consumables with supervisors
 Operates specialised equipment and power/hand tools relevant to his/her trade which
he/she was trained on (e.g. impact wrenches, electric drills/saws, grinding wheels, oxyacetylene
torch etc.
 Performs basic repairs, installations and any other work, for the operation of all
machinery/plant/equipment in area of responsibility, for which they are suitably qualified
 Carries out basic troubleshooting
 Reads and interprets basic technical drawings, diagrams and workshop manuals
 Cleans/stores and performs basic maintenance on the equipment as required
 Carries out administrative functions taking into cognizance the need to create a clear
audit trail by:
 Completing job cards to the correct standard
 Complying with all operational and engineering procedures related to tools, manuals,
work practices
 Adheres to all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures in area of

 Self-Starter
 Communications Skills
