The World Trade Organization (WTO) based in Geneva, Switzerland, is seeking to fill a position of Dispute Settlement Lawyer (Grade 9) in Appellate Body Secretariat.
We are looking for lawyers with extensive experience in and knowledge of WTO dispute settlement to deliver legal advice and assistance to the Appellate Body and to serve as team leader or co-leader in assisting with WTO appellate proceedings. The successful candidate will be required to conduct or direct research on complex legal issues, prepare or guide the preparation of analyses of difficult legal issues in the context of WTO disputes, and prepare or direct the preparation of legal opinions on complex and/or novel issues. The successful candidate may also be required to deliver technical assistance and training on the WTO Agreements to WTO Members and to contribute to the development of training materials, internal research materials, and WTO publications.
An advanced university degree in law, including studies in international trade law and public international law, is required. A backgound in international economics would be an advantage. Excellent command of written and spoken English is required and additional knowledge of French and/or Spanish is desirable.
At least 8 years' relevant practical work experience as a lawyer is required, preferably including government, academic or private sector experience in national or international trade-related litigation. Work experience with international or national courts or adjudicative bodies would be an asset.
