Territory Manager - Botswana
The role
Reporting directly tothe Regional Manager – Sales Area Southern Africa, Mining, this managerial role is responsible for managing and developing the overall business for Sandvik Botswana. The focus is on business direction (strategic), financial control (revenue targets), optimal operational results andthe effective utilisation of equipment and resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the formulating and executing of strategies, policies and objectives as established by the Board of Directors of SandvikBotswana and the Mining Management Team of Sales Area, Southern Africa
- Legally complies with the local laws and regulations for the company in Botswana.
- Representative of Sandvik Management for Botswana, having overall responsibility for Sandvik ownership related matters and overall business activities.
- Initiate activities to increase the efficiency of the business activities and take advantage of the synergy opportunities within Sandvik,
- Control all aspects of finance, reporting and administration in the Territory
- Budgeting and forecasting process
- Align the business with the Global Strategic Plan and Objectives of Sandvik.
- Corporate Governance – adhere to the King Report on good corporate citizenship.
- Legal compliance – conducts, manage and control the business in a financial sound manner. Build partnerships internally and externally to accomplish organisational goals
- Analyze actual vs. forecasts / budgets
- Building culture that embraces change; setting a clear direction
- Proactively guiding individuals and teams toward achieving successful results
- Create and maintain a sound plan of the organization and ensure that responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities are defined and understood.
- Ensure adherence to the Sandvik IT guidelines and ensure that data security, backup and other controls for own systems are established in accordance with Sandvik Group IT Guidelines and system owners' requirements.
- Health and Safety of all personnel i.e. Ensure that all personnel receive regular and recorded Health and Safety training and that Health and Safety improvement activities are in progress
- Apply Remuneration Strategy, after advice from the General Manager, Human Resources, SMSA Southern Africa, respective Business Area Representatives and other stakeholders.
- Administratively manage day-to-day operation in the country
- Manage common local functions such as HR, IT, facility management and other support services.
- Co-ordinate and host local aftermarket functions
- Top representative in the country
- Consider all proposals for acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures and purchase and/or sale of major assets including land and buildings in cooperation with the VP, Sandvik Mining Sales Area, Southern Africa and Group representative to evaluate the implications for the company.
- Attend the Sandvik Mining Sales Area, Southern Africa Meetings, Country Managers Meeting (Exco), SMSA, Southern Africa Directors Meeting
- Effective management and control of customer accounts and sales equipment
- Continuous growth and sustainability of the equipment sales and associated Aftermarket sales and services for all mining types
- Achieve sales targets
- On time service delivery
- Product availability
- Increasing market share and profitability in Botswana
- Effective customer relations
- Assisting in the development of strategic business plans and market intelligence for the different business offerings
- Effective utilisation of the Equipment Sales Support (ESS) function to create synergies and efficiency in the Business Development offering
- Creation of a world class after-market service offering that is profitable
- Leveraging on all relevant stakeholders both internally and externally
- Identification of new solutions and business opportunities
- Manage general Sandvik public relations in the country
- Aim to ensure that Sandvik becomes an Employer of Choice
Key Responsibilities
- accountable for the success of the long term business viability of the mining business
- accountable for EHS
- increased customer share and satisfaction,
- Financial Management i.e. business planning, budgeting and volume forecasting, CCC and net working capital development,
- Long-term business plans and infrastructure development together with other business areas operating in the Region.
Your profile
The successful candidate must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric / Trade Certificate
- Tertiary degree / diploma in Mining / Engineering / Commercial / Project Management
- Additional Management Courses will be an advantage
- 10 years' experience in mining environment of which 5 years minimum in management
- Minimum of 5 years work experience within Sandvik Mining
- At least 5 years sales / business development experience
- Valid drivers license
- Be able to operate from remote areas
- In depth knowledge of Sandvik products and their applications
- In depth knowledge of all Sandvik internal systems and departments
- Computer literate (high skills level with Microsoft Office, especially excel)
- Good command of Business English, written and oral.
- Must be able to handle a diversity of functions / multi- tasking
- Must have a personal trait to influence people
- Good communication skills

- Willing and able to travel excessively
- Medically fit to travel
Note:
As this job entails a high level of travel in country and out of country, applicants must be willing to travel for long periods , have a valid passport, compliant to individual country laws for entry, be medically fit to travel (as per yellow card) and be prepared to operate in harsh remote areas.
