VACANCY: PRINCIPAL MEDICAL OFFICER - (1 Post)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified citizens for the above posts in the Botswana Prison Service tenable at Francistown Prison Infectious Disease Control Centre (IDCC).
SALARY:D2(P218 592 – P241 344) per annum.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To provide preventative, promotive and curative services within the framework of Primary Health Care particularly with regard to the ARV program.

DUTIES
• Consults, examines and make diagnosis through interpretation of results as well as documented information about the patient and plan appropriate intervention
• Decides on and specifies medical plan of care for patients on the basis of the diagnosis by setting short and long term objectives in compliance with the established medical care guidelines
• Determine the relative importance of different aspects of necessary medical care and sets priorities for the implementation of the care plan
• Identifies patients care activities carried out by other members of health team and delegate any such activities in compliance with statutory requirements governing practice of respective health care workers and or health professionals.
• Monitor patients’ progress or patients ‘ response to care intervention
• Reviews plans of cases as necessary to determine patients’ potential benefits from specialist intervention and make appropriate referrals
• Collaborates with other members of the health team to plan a comprehensive system for family members and patient with chronic illness and or disability
• Assesses patients referred by other members of health care team, review
treatment given as necessary and provide professional guidance relative to medical management of patient care problems
• Undertakes patient care activities assigned by the specialist and or senior doctors
• Confers and collaborates with nursing officers and other members of the health team to ensure a concerted multi disciplinary approach to patient care in line with primary health guidelines
• Undertakes any other related duties as directed by management
