POSITION: Assistant Logistician (Short Term)

WORK HOURS: S/He will perform duties during a six-day work week during an approximately 18-week contract period. Position will require work in the evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
PERIOD of PERFORMANCE: 1st July 2015 through 15th November 2015 (on-site timeframe: 01 August – 20 October, 2015)
RENUMERATATION: BWP 300/day. During on-site living, food, lodging and incidental allowance will be provided.
Statement of Work
The services to be performed under this contract will be subject to the ultimate responsibility and authority of the Peace Corps Country Director, who is responsible for all Peace Corps activities in the host country.
Background
Since re-opening in 2002, Peace Corps Botswana has worked to support the Government of Botswana in addressing its HIV/AIDS epidemic, in cooperation with the Ministries of Local Government, Education, and Health, in addition to National AIDS Coordinating Agency. To date, the program has worked in District AIDS Coordinators’ Offices; with clinics, District Health Teams, and Social and Community Development Offices; with Non-governmental and Community-Based Organizations, and in local schools to implement a Life Skills curriculum. Nearly 140 Volunteers are currently serving and over 400 have served since the reopening of Peace Corps in Botswana.
Objective
The Peace Corps seeks to hire one (1) Assistant Logistician for a three month Pre Service Training (PST) in Molepolole. This is a full time, live on-site position for the entire period of the contract.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
*Works in cooperation with Training Manager, Logistician and training staff to provide logistical support for Pre-Service Training. Stays overnight at training sites during PST, as required.
*Ensures delivery and distribution of equipment and supplies to PST in advance of and during training. Maintains an updated and accurate inventory of Peace Corps equipment and supplies at training site. Advises Logistician of supply requests. Works with Logistician, training staff and administration staff to coordinate purchase and delivery of food baskets for staff and PCTs during PST.
*Assists Logistician in locating suitable staff housing, office space, and training facilities in the PST host villages.
*Assists in the coordinator of vehicles/fleet management of GoB and Peace Corps vehicles. Receives vehicle requests from training staff and prepares transportation schedules to meet their needs in a timely fashion.
*Provides safe and courteous transport for staff, trainees, volunteers and other personnel conducting official Peace Corps business.
*Provides support during emergency situations.
*Performs required errands, to include purchase on local supplies, conduct of market basket surveys, and payment of bills to local suppliers.
*Assures that vehicles are properly maintained and operated according in accordance with Peace Corps and USG guidelines, and manufacturer specifications. Performs daily checks of Peace Corps vehicles in accordance with vehicle check list including cleaning of vehicles and ensures that vehicles are locked and garaged after office hours. Ensures vehicles have sufficient fuel for planned activities and purchases fuel when necessary. Maintains daily vehicle logs.
*Ensures that vehicles are clean, in good repair, and secure at all times. Monitors the use of vehicles and related equipment and recommends maintenance. Performs minor mechanical maintenance as necessary. Identifies and/or recommends competent contractors for major mechanical work and ensures that all work is completed satisfactorily. Records repair and maintenance operations of assigned PC vehicle as outlined in the Vehicle Maintenance Log.
*Assists with moving of furniture and equipment and retrieving supplies from storage, as needed.
*Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
*Education: Completion of secondary education. Good understanding of office procedures is required.
*Prior experience: At least five years of experience providing logistical support for an institution or organization. Prior experience working with US Peace Corps or similar Volunteer organization preferred.
*Language: Level IV (fluency written and spoken) English and Setswana.
*Demonstrated ability to work in multi-task environment with limited supervision; able to maintain and professional demeanor at all times; demonstrated ability to organize many varied job tasks.
*Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required.
*Must have high-level attention to detail, self-driven, ability to multi-task and strong time-management skills.
*Valid driver’s license and clean driving, preferable with PrDP-P.
