The post is located in the Office of the Director-General.
The Perception Change Project is a pilot project led by the United Nations Office at Geneva and based at the Office of the Director-General. It is destined to improve understanding among key audiences of the real value and impact of collective work of “International Geneva”, change public perception about the United Nations and its partners, inform policy priorities and increase resource allocation. The aim of the project is to create a narrative that establishes a clear link between what is done by all the actors of “International Geneva” and the lives of individuals. The overall goal is to assure policy-makers and the public at large of the value in supporting the activities undertaken in Geneva. This internship would ideally start on 18 May 2015 for a maximum period of 6 months.
Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
• Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
• Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
• Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, much commence the internship within a one year period of graduation from an academic programme. Applicants who are unable to commence the internship within one year of graduation shall not be accepted.

The university degree must be in the field of communications, graphic design, journalism, public relations, international relations, statistics or related fields.
Work Experience
• Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme; but applicants should :
• Be computer literate in standard software applications;
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- Some experience in areas such as communication, design, media, public relations, partnership-building, UN system and international affairs would be an asset.
- Some experience with graphics software (Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, Fireworks etc.) and with video recording, editing and production would be an advantage
- Some experience with communication campaigns, advertising or event coordination, as well as in internal communication would be an advantage.
- Some experience in statistical analysis (i.e. SPSS statistics packages) would be an asset

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this position, fluency in English or French and knowledge of the other is required.
Knowledge of German would be a strong advantage. Any other languages would be beneficial.
