DEPUTY DIRECTOR, DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE AND NATIONAL PARKS

SALARY SCALE: E2 (P325, 188 – P338, 316 per annum)
BENEFITS:
(a) A contract of 24 – 36 months with gratuity payable at the rate of 25% upon the expiry of contract.
LEAVE: 30 working days per annum.
QUALIFICATIONS: Degree in Wildlife Management and Conservation/Environmental Science or related fields.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of fourteen (14) years relevant work experience, at least 2 years of which should have been served on a managerial post on D1 salary grade in Government or equivalent in the Private Sector or Parastatal organization.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
• Deputise the Director in the overall management of operations of the Department and coordinate all aspects of budget formulation, policy formulation analysis and implementation of Government plans.

• Provide exceptional managerial and professional abilities in policy formulation analysis, implementation and evaluation.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
• Develops strategic partnerships with national key stakeholders and regional conservation bodies on Transfrontier wildlife conservation.
• Engages with non-governmental organisations and local communities to improve sustainable conservation and management of wildlife resources for enhanced local community livelihoods.
• Oversees the development of strategies for capacity building within communities to engage in wildlife resource-based tourism.
• Promote communication, education and awareness on Community Based Natural Resources Management (CBNRM).
• Oversees performance and service delivery in wildlife conservation and utilisation Directorate.
• Advises on the development of human resources development strategy.
• Develops and mentors senior management in the wildlife conservation and utilisation Directorate.
• Develops and monitors implementation of strategies, management plans and standards concerning designated wildlife areas.
• Initiates and represent the Government in the negotiations and management of Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs).
• Develops strategies to mitigate Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC).
• Provides prudent management and leveraging of financial resources.
• Oversees the procurement of law enforcement, logistical and infrastructure requisites.
• Benchmark on best practices of wildlife estate management and community support and outreach programs.
