POSITION: Language and Cross-Cultural Facilitator

WORK HOURS: S/He will perform duties during a six-day work week during an approximately 10-week contract period. Position will require work in the evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
PERIOD of PERFORMANCE: 20th July through 17th October 2015.
RENUMERATATION: BWP 300/day for days worked. When working at the training site, food and lodging will be provided as well as incidental and communications allowances.Qualifications & Competencies:
*Experience teaching adults, or academic qualifications in Adult education. Possession of both competencies is preferable.
*Strong command and fluency in Setswana and English, written and oral.
*Fluency in Sekgalagadi, Ikalanga and/or other languages is highly desired.
*Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite especially Word, Power-point and Excel required.

Duties and Responsibilities
*The LCF position is tenable where training events take place and is performed under the supervision and management of the Language and Cross Cultural Coordinator (LCC). The LCFs’ primary responsibility is to implement language and cultural training programs provided to trainees and Volunteers throughout their service. This includes in particular, a 10-week Pre-Service Training and a 2 week In-Service
*Training (IST). LCFs also assist the LCC to monitor and evaluate trainings and to participate in pretraining planning events. LCFs also work closely with all other staff trainers to contribute inter-cultural perspectives to other technical training sessions provided during training events.

Before the PST:
*Attends Training of Trainers (TOT) for at least two weeks
*Attends briefing sessions with Peace Corps staff: Country Director (CD), Director of Programming & Training (DPT), Program Managers, Director of Management & Operations (DMO), PCMC, PCVs and the training staff
*In collaboration with the Language and Cross Cultural Coordinator, reviews and suggests improvements/changes in the Language and Cross culture training design and training objects to reflect trainee and program needs, as well as the skills of the training staff
*Collaborates fully with the Training Manager, Program & Training Staff and Training Coordinator to ensure the integration of all components of technical training into the overall goals of the training program prior to the arrival of the trainees in Gaborone, works with the Training Manager, Program & Training Staff, Training Coordinator and LCC to design and coordinate a trainee orientation program.

*Develops lesson plans and training modules for language and cross cultural components.
*Teaches language and facilitates cross cultural training sessions on a daily basis.
*Serves as the primary point of contact between host families and PCTs.
*Collaborates with training staff, local authorities (tribal and governmental), and all home-stay families to ensure everything is prepared for the arrival of the trainees.
*Serves as a cultural guide and mentor to the Peace Cops trainees.
*Fosters and maintains positive relationships, a spirit of cooperation, and teamwork with and among all PST staff, Peace Corps staff and trainees.
*Assists the LCC and PST Logistician to coordinate and oversee the daily logistical and administrative operations of the language and cross cultural training.
*I responsible for regularly monitoring trainee and Volunteer learning according to Peace Corps’ monitoring system and provides regular feedback to trainees aimed at promoting their learning..
*Shares trainee and Volunteer progress with other involved staff in a timely and effective manner.
*Serves as a training resource to all staff. e.g. helps take notes, assist in setting up rooms, explain cultural issues
*Provides guidance, counseling, and support to the Peace Corps trainees.
*Maintains positive public relations the local community.
*Collaborates with the Training Manager, LCC, Program Managers and DPT and follows prescribed guidelines when counseling potential early termination trainees (ET’s) and provides documentation for early termination reports.
*Submits weekly PCT progress reports to the LCC.
*Meets regularly with Training Manager and LCC on a mutually agreed upon schedule.
*Prepares and distribute the weekly schedule of PST activities at least two weeks in advance and coordinate training staff participation and preparation.
*Recommends to the Training Manager, LCC, Program Managers and DPT all trainees that should or should not be sworn in a Peace Corps Volunteers with supporting behavioral and performance documentation.
*Is a model of cultural integration, and is respectful of local customs. Represents Peace Corps in a positive manner on all occasions, and respects the productive relations already established by post and its staff.
