Introduction
Sandvik Hyperion in Coventry develops, manufactures and markets a wide range of products, principally using the unique properties of cemented carbide. They are currently looking for an EHS Expert to continuously improve the EHS management system, by considering compliance to all relevant EHS regulations and follow best practice.
The Role
The role will involve:
- Supporting all functional departments to achieve EHS performance through training, coaching and technical support.
- Monitoring, documenting and reporting the EHS KPI’s.
- Handling and organising of hazardous waste removal from site as and when necessary.
- Co-ordinating and organising the internal and external audits, identifying any potential hazards and weaknesses, developing and tracking the corrective actions.
- Risk assessments and records including fire risk assessments in compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire safety) Order, COSHH & Manual handling.
- Developing and maintaining Crisis Management systems, assuring the correct crisis response.
- Coordinating with Sandvik EHS group to ensure the site is fully aware of and compliant with changes in legislative requirements.
- Advice & facilitation to production and Engineering in particular regarding Management of Change.
- Incident, Accident and near miss investigations and report to internal requirements as well as reporting to the HSE if necessary. Produce practical recommendations to prevent recurrence through a coordinated team approach.
- Be the primary contact for the Health & Safety Executive, coordinating their visits and responses.
- Supporting the continuous development of EHS management systems.
- Maintain, review and amend the COMAH Safety Report.
- Conduct personal monitoring of employees for exposure levels and coordinate sampling with medical professionals
- Conducting risk assessments for the site
- Advise to Management and Employees on all general aspects relevant safety legislation but in particular COMAH, COSHH and DSEAR to ensure compliance with current safety regulations, with the primary aim of providing and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment throughout the business
Your Profile
The successful candidate will have:
- A BSc in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
- Must hold NEBOSH National General Certificate as a minimum, a Diploma is desirable.
- Knowledge of COMAH – EHS Management system.
- Experience of implementation and operation of Safety and Environmental Management Systems ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A structured and organised approach to work, driving changes to completion.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a EHS capacity role
