Duration of Assignment: 3 months

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Migrants in Countries in Crisis (MICIC) Initiative is a state-led effort to improve the ability of states and other stakeholders to prepare for and respond to the needs of migrants caught in countries in situations of acute crisis, whether as a result of conflict or natural disaster, including protecting their dignity and alleviating suffering. Through a process of broad and inclusive consultations, the Initiative aims to produce a set of voluntary guidelines and principles which define the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders vis-à-vis migrants in countries in crisis and compile good practices in preparing for, responding to, and addressing long-term consequences of such situations. The MICIC Working Group is co-chaired by the governments of the Philippines and the United States, and also includes Australia, Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, and the European Commission. The Initiative is further supported by IOM, UNHCR, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on International Migration, and the Institute for the Study of International Migration at Georgetown University.
The MICIC Secretariat, hosted by IOM, serves as a conduit and repository for sharing of knowledge and experiences, building partnerships, and networking between and among governments and non-governmental stakeholders. The work of the Secretariat encompasses both logistical and substantive support to the MICIC Initiative. The Secretariat schedules and maintains a programme of work and associated calendars, arranges meetings of the Working Group and consultations with stakeholders, develops outreach and communication tools and performs related administrative and organizational tasks as required.
