ITB Number: SADC/AfDB ACMAD DMC/CSC PROJECT/12/2015
Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) has received a Grant from the African Development Bank toward the cost of the Institutional Support to African Climate Institutions Project (ISACIP) and intends to apply part of the agreed amount for this grant to payments under the contract for an individual consultant to carry out consulting services as a Regional Climate Scenario and Impact Assessment Specialist for SADC-CSC ISACIP.
The Institutional Support Project to the African Climate Institutions (ISACIP) funded by the African Development Bank (ADB). It aims to strengthen the capacity of African Climate Institutions to generate climate information and to allow their wide dissemination to end users. These Institutions are: the African Centre of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD) Regional Centre for Agro-meteorology and Operational Hydrology (AGRHYMET), IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) and SADC Climate Services Centre (SADC‐CSC) former Drought Monitoring Centre (DMC) in Nairobi and Gaborone respectively. ISACIP will strengthen the capacity of African Climate Institutions in order for them to generate relevant information on climate and to make them available to end users through appropriate channels.
The implementation of the project will be done through three components:
- Production of climate‐related information,
- Institutional strengthening, and
- Coordinating the project.
As part of the implementation of this project, ACMAD with a mandate across the continent, acts as an Executing Agency and coordinates the implementation of the project at the other three beneficiary institutions. As part of implementation of ISACIP in SADC, the Climate Services Centre will need to recruit a short‐term Regional Climate Scenario and Impact Assessment Specialist under the Downscaling of Global Climate Data and Scenarios-Services component.
The main purpose of the assignment is for the Regional Climate Scenario and Impact Assessment Specialist to develop regional climate impact assessment models and train regional experts in interpretation of global and regional climate models and their products.
SADC Secretariat now invites eligible Individual Consultants to indicate their interest in providing the services of a Regional Climate Scenario and Impact Assessment Specialist for SADC-CSC ISACIP.
Interested Individual Consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (expression of interest cover letter, curriculum vitae, certified copies of evidence of professional and academic qualifications, etc).
Eligibility criteria, establishment of the short-list and the selection procedure shall be in accordance with the African Development Bank’s “Rules and Procedures for the use of Consultants”, dated January 2000, which is available on the Bank’s website at http://www.afdb.org.
