OKAVANGO RESEARCH INSTITUTE (MAUN)
Applications are invited for the following academic positions at the Okavango Research Institute (ORI). The Institute is based in Maun in the North Western part of Botswana and specializes in natural resources management, sustainable natural resource use and conservation in the world famous Okavango Delta and the Kgalagadi (Kalahari) region. The Institute has a good library (a branch of the University library in Gaborone) and excellent research laboratories. The Institute attracts significant international funding and is becoming generally acknowledged as a global research leader in natural resources management. TEACHING ASSISTANT – GRADUATES (2- year Contract)
VACANCY NO: ORI 7/ 2015
Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) assist with graduate students’ admissions process; facilitate registration process and ORI graduate program administration; (ii) assist day to day activities of the ORI graduate program; (iii) assist in organising seminars for graduate students and ORI Graduate Committee meetings; (iv) perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the ORI Graduate Coordinator. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the ORI Graduate Coordinator to achieve the mission and objectives of the Institute, School of Graduate Studies and the University.
Requirements: Applicants should have the following qualifications: (i) at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences with specialization in administration; (ii) administrative experience in an institution of higher learning; (iii) demonstrated understanding of the working dynamics of an academic environment; in particular graduate studies will also be an added advantage; (iv) proficiency in the use of computers and IT are essential.
