X-RAY POWDER DIFFRACTOMETER (XRPD) SCIENTIST

VACANCY NO. FSc/ G 12/ 2014

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) Be in-charge of the XRD laboratory and its day-to-day operations; (i) Provide service to University of Botswana clients such as analyzing samples for university students and academic staff and researchers from outside the university; (iii) Teach and train students and academic staff in the use of the XRD facility; (iv) Conduct basic and/or applied research using the XRD facility; (v) Conduct workshops on the use of the XRD facility;  (vi) provide service to external clients; (vii) Advertise University of Botswana XRD facilities on campus and externally; (viii) Be involved in the University of Botswana staff and students research projects; (ix) Draw up annual budgets required for the running of the facility; (x) carry out any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of the Department. 

Requirements: Candidates should: (i) have an MSc in Geology (Mineralogy) or related discipline; (ii) a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related fields with at least a 2(i) pass/ GPA of at least 3.6; (iii) Demonstrate extensive experience of running XRD equipment; (iii) A good record of research and publications will be an added advantage.
