The African Union Advisory Board on Corruption is an autonomous organ established within the African Union, in terms of Article 22 of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption. The main mandate of the Board is to promote and encourage the adoption of measures and actions by State Parties to prevent, detect, punish and eradicate corruption and related offences in Africa as well as to follow-up on the application of those measures and submit a report to the Executive Council on a regular basis on the progress made by each State Party in complying with the provisions of the Convention.
In seeking to achieve these objectives, the Board intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver, by amongst others, the implementation of a basic organizational structure and the filling of all vacant posts.

2. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Secretary, the Senior Policy Officer – Legal & Political Matters will contribute and provide technical advice to advance the work of the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption. He/she will contribute to the Boards’ annual/periodic reports/publications and, as a member or leader of multidisciplinary teams, contribute to the formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of impact of anti-corruption programmes from a legal and political perspective. In particular he/she will:
a. Provide intellectual and analytical input to advance the work of the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption, as well as enhancing the role of civil society in governance processes, local governance and corporate issues;
b. Assist in planning, preparing and implementing programme activities relating to the fight against corruption and related offences;
c. Assist in developing and maintaining appropriate working relations with AU Organs and partners of the African Union on issues relating to the fight against corruption and good governance;
d. Advise governmental authorities, the African Union and other national and international organizations in preventing and combating corruption;
e. Conceive and organize seminars, workshops and other related activities in the field of governance and combating corruption with various stakeholders;
f. Draft speeches, talking points, report activities and specific missions;
g. Provide advice on democracy, rule of law and good governance issues, including providing input into official communications, statements and other documents;
h. Provide support in other areas of the AUABC’S work and undertake any other relevant tasks as maybe assigned by Supervisor.
3. Qualifications and Experience Required:
Candidates must have a minimum Masters University Degree in International Relations, Law, Public Administration, Diplomacy and/or related fields. A higher qualification will be an added advantage.
4. Professional Experience Required:
Candidates must have at least seven (7) years of relevant working experience in the area of international public administration, human rights, good governance and the fight against corruption, with preferably three (3) years’ experience in an international organization.
5. Other Relevant Skills:
• Computer literate;
• Excellent drafting and reporting skills;
• Good communication and negotiating skills;
• Good knowledge of policy analysis, programme management, implementation and monitoring;
• Good planning and organizational skills;
• Ability to work under pressure and to act with discretion in a politically sensitive and multi-cultural environment ;
• Excellent interpersonal skills or social capital
6. Language Requirement:
Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages is mandatory. Knowledge of one or several other working language(s) would be an added value
7. Age Requirement:
Candidates must preferably be between 30 and 45 years old.
8. Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of with the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.
