Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Social Development Policy Division/Urbanization Section. Research Assistant will report to the Chief of the Urbanization Section.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. University degree in either economic or social field is desirable. Must have passed the United Nations Global General Service Test (GGST) at Headquarters or an equivalent locally-administered test at Offices Away.

Work Experience
Ten or more years of experience in progressively responsible work in research especially in information and data management of which some should have been within a research organization at the national, regional or international level. Experience in the areas of urbanization, urban and spatial planning and development is an advantage. Knowledge of applied research techniques combined with computer application skills is highly desirable.

Languages
Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
