Applications are invited from assertive, hands on, innovative and result-oriented individuals to join a team of researchers focused on HIV and TB biomedical research at Botswana Harvard AIDS Institute Partnership (BHP) and University of Botswana in the following positions;

Laboratory Research Intern (2 Positions)

Job purpose
The incumbents will be expected to assist the researchers on different projects and will over time be encouraged to come up with questions that would lead to new research projects.

Requirements

Roles and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be expected to train and master laboratory skills including sample processing, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) isolation from whole blood, nucleic acid extraction, polymerase chain reaction(PCR), cloning, sequencing, sequence editing, phylogenetic analysis, data analysis, fl ow cytometry, ELISPOT, cell culture and many others as necessitated by the diff erent research projects.

Qualifications and Requirements

• B.Sc degree in Biomedical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics or Biological Sciences.
• A final grade of 2-1 or better for the BSc is required.
• No post qualification experience required.

Botswana Harvard AIDS Institute Partnership (BHP) is a collaborative research and training initiative between government of Botswana and the Harvard School of Public Health. BHP is dedicated to fight HIV/AIDS and related public health challenges through collaborative research, education and capacity building.

BHP and the University of Botswana are part of a Wellcome Trust funded consortium called Sub-Saharan Africa Network for TB and HIV research Excellence (SANTHE) under the Wellcome Trust’s DELTAs initiative. One of the main objectives of SANTHE is to build capacity in Sub-Saharan Africa through carrying out cutting edge research on HIV and TB aimed at coming up with strategies to reduce the burden of these infections.
