PROGRAMME COORDINATOR- Orphaned Vulnerable Children Project (referred to as OVC)
The Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing programming to empower Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC), ages 12+ where they are encouraged to become actively engaged in driving their own life paths. The Project Coordinator will oversee the OVC project as well as collaborate with family and community agencies to ensure all designated districts are progressing.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Implement participatory life skills activities with OVC to assist in improving their self-image, confidence levels, decision making and goal setting abilities
• Support parents and caregivers of OVC through training in an evidence-based curriculum called Parent Effectiveness Training (PET)
• Collaborate with schools to expand the implementation of a financial and social literacy programme (Aflateen)
• Implement a comprehensive psychosocial support programme in designated areas of Botswana
• Collaborate with community stakeholders, school leaders, social workers and families on issues surrounding children’s rights
• Develop and implement curriculum based on a combination of employability skills, English literacy and financial management for OVC youth
• Develop and implement programmes to train guidance counsellors and social workers to better assist children
• Collaborate with Child Protection Committees in villages in the target districts to sensitize and mobilize communities on issues of children’s rights
• Provide ongoing coaching for youth and community members
• Monitor project progress and submit timely reports

Qualifications
• Degree preferred or equivalent experience in youth development, social work, adult education or related field
• In-depth knowledge of issues surrounding children’s rights and SSI’s Orphan Vulnerable Children project and protocols
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Ability to multi-task
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex activities, meet deadlines and exercise sound judgment
• Previous experience in community mobilization and working with adolescents
• Knowledge and experience in facilitating using participatory techniques
• Strong oral and written communication skills i.e. ability to write reports
• Willingness to travel throughout Botswana- especially in Tutume + Bobonong Sub-Districts and Moeding College in Southeast District (Otse) which are designated project areas.
