HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER - KHOEMACAU COPPER MINING

Khoemacau Copper Mining (Pty) Ltd is a Botswana registered company that holds the rights to prospecting licences in North West Botswana. The company comprises two operations, namely the Boseto operation and the Zone 5 (Qhoree) operation. To be successful, the company needs suitably qualified people to form part of its team. Currently the company is looking to recruit a Health and Safety Officer who will work on rotational rooster and be accommodated on site.

Currently the company is looking to recruit a HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER.

Purpose of the role:
Reporting to the Health and Safety Coordinator, the incumbent will assist in the implementation, coordination and maintenance of the Health and Safety progammes as per company and national standards.

Requirements

Key areas of responsibility:

• Advises and guides Mine employees on the interpretation and application of the Mine’s Health and Safety Programme;
• Schedules and conducts regular Health and Safety audits and generates reports on findings;
• Assumes the role of Responsible Person for Health and Safety duties in the absence of the Health and Safety Coordinator;
• Schedules and conducts regular Health and Safety inspections to identify hazards and recommend control measures;
• Liaises with contractors to ensure that they carry out and document risk assessments and safe work procedures;
• Assists with the conducting of annual occupational hygiene surveys in accordance with the relevant protocols;
• Conducts Health and Safety general induction for all new employees, visitors and contractors and ensures those inducted sign an induction register and records are kept;
• Schedules and conducts training of Health and Safety representatives on general safety;
• Assists with the training of employees on risk assessment;
• Assists with the training of all employees exposed to hazardous chemicals in the handling of chemicals;
• Conducts incident/accident investigations in accordance with the Mine procedure;
• Assists with the preparation of incident and or accident notifications which are circulated to all employees;
• Assists with the compilation of incident reports or dockets;
• Briefs line management on safety issues at sectional meetings and Health and Safety forums; and
• Provides input into the month end reports.

Minimum qualifications, experience and skill requirements:

• Edge and Understanding of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001
• ISO Auditing skills
• First Aid certified
• Valid Driving License
• Computer literate in the standard Microsoft Office Software
• Diploma/Degree in Occupational Hygiene/Safety Management or equivalent qualification such as National Diploma in Safety Management (NADSAM)
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Health and Safety, preferably in a mining environment
• Knowledge and experience in incident/accident Investigation
• Knowl edge and Understanding of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001
• ISO Auditing skills
• First Aid certified
• Valid Driving License
• Computer literate in the standard Microsoft Office Software
