The Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs exists to provide civil registration, migration, labour and skills development services, and coordinate gender policy. We seek to recruit highly motivated officers to fill the following positions:

VACANCY CIRCULAR 15 OF 2015

SALARY SCALE: D4 - (P175, 224 – P193, 452) per annum.

LEAVE: 30 Working Days per annum.

BENEFITS:

Optional contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government contributes 50% and Employee 50%).
Contributory Pension Fund (Employee contributes 5% and Government 15%)

QUALIFICATIONS

A Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering or any related field.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of six (6) years relevant work experience in Occupational Health and Safety as well as at least two (2) years experience as Health and Safety Officer I – C1.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To monitor compliance to the conditions of employment in the workplace with regard to the safety, health and welfare of workers.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

INSPECTIONS (Factories and Plant)

· Inspects factories and plant to ensure that equipment, materials and production process do not present a safety and health hazard to employees and employers.
· Inspects and tests machinery and equipment such as lifting devices, compressors, boilers etc. to make sure they meet safety standard.
· Conducts incidental spot checks of health, safety and welfare standards in factories to ensure compliance.
· Conducts investigations on accidents in factories, construction sites and other workplaces.
· Advises employers/ employees on safe work practices, safety standards and regulations.
· Attends to customer queries

Health and Safety Audits

· Conducts health and safety audits to ensure compliance with set standards.
· Checks and makes follow-ups on adherence to compliance recommendations made during inspections.

Hygiene Monitoring

· Identifies and tests work areas for potential accidents and health hazards, such as toxic fumes and explosive gas and air mixtures.
· Ensures that personal protective equipment is used in workplaces according to regulations.

Public Education

· Conducts training sessions on health and safety for clients.
