Org. Setting and Reporting

Building on the current Millennium Development Goals framework and focusing on sustainable development, the post-2015 development agenda will shape the way development policy and poverty eradication will be carried out in the years to come. In supporting this important process, the Secretary-General has appointed his Special Advisor on Post-2015 Development Planning to coordinate various inputs, engage all stakeholders and provide strategic advice to the Secretary-General.
The internship is ideally for four (4) months (minimum of two months) with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the Office. Applicants are encouraged to highlight their specific skills and/or experience in their cover note. They are asked to do so carefully in order to enhance the value of the internship for both themselves and the receiving Office. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Policy Advisor under the overall guidance of the Team Leader supporting the Office of the SG’s Special Advisor. | |||||||
Responsibilities

The Intern will report to the Senior Officer in the Special Advisor’s team. Responsibilities may include:
• Manage inputs for the knowledge sharing website; • Draft summaries of meetings as required; • Conduct research on relevant issues as may be required; • Assist in the preparation of briefing notes for the meetings of the Special Advisor. | |||||||

Education

Education
We are looking for applicants with a background in law, international relations, administration, conflict resolution, public relations, social sciences or related fields. To qualify for consideration for an internship by the United Nations Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: (1) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (2) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); (3) Have graduated with a university degree as defined in (1) and (2) above; (4) Candidates who are selected, must commence the internship programme either prior to graduation or within one year of graduation from an academic programme as described in (1) and (2). Applicants who are unable to commence the internship within one year of graduation shall not be accepted. | |||||||
Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. However, work experience in relevant areas is an asset.

Languages
| |||||||
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme. Written and spoken French would be an advantage. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
