Organizational Setting and Reporting
Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.
Under the direct supervision of the Department of Safety and Security (office), the intern will:
1. Assist to prepare presentations for security briefings for new staff, dependents and delegates;
2. Assist in updating and maintaining the warden system, UN staff list and UNDSS applications;
3. Assist in compiling and updating all UN agencies contact lists;
6. Assist in organizing security cell and SMT meetings and drafting of the minutes;
7. Assist the FSCO Nairobi in all administrative issues.
8. Type and dispatch letters of unsolicited applicants.
9. Assist in sorting out application letters.
10. Maintain security applications for employment database.
11. Assist in verifying security transport vouchers.
12. Assist in filling, photocopying documents and hand-carry urgent mail to respective UN offices.
13. Carry out an other duties as necessary

Education
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
be enrolled in:
a. be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
Be computer literate in standard software applications;
Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Studies in Information Technology preferred.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is desirable.
