Overview and period of performance: Abt Associates is seeking expressions of interest from senior- and mid-level technical specialists and managers in fields related to food security, livelihoods, climate change, early warning systems, humanitarian assistance, complex emergency management and analysis, and data management and analysis. Prior experience working with USAID’s Famine Early Warning System Network (FEWSNET) initiative preferred but not required. Work under the anticipated FEWSNET 7 initiative will begin in 2017 and is expected to run through 2023. Candidates who have experience in the following sub-fields and have the minimum qualifications should apply.
Sub-fields:
- Food Security & Livelihoods
- Markets & Trade
- Climate Change and Early Warning Forecasting
- Agro-meteorology, hydrometeorology and meteorology
- Data management, integration and security
- Monitoring, Learning and Communications
- Complex emergency management and analysis
- Field experience in least developed countries of sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and/or Central America
- Prior direct or indirect experience with FEWSNET preferred
Qualifications:
Mid-level Requirements:
- Master’s degree or higher in a relevant social, natural, data science, or professional field;
- 5-12 years of experience in one or more of the above listed sub-fields;
- Minimum 2 years of experience in developing or crisis-affected countries;
- Excellent written and oral communications and presentation skills;
- Proven ability to work effectively and meet deadlines in high-pressure settings;
- Fluent English required;
- Professional proficiency in one or more of the following languages a plus (Amharic, Arabic , Bengali, French, Hausa, Hindi, Pashto, Pulaar, Portuguese, Russian, Somali , Spanish, Swahili, Urdu).
Senior-level Requirements:
- Master’s degree or higher (Ph.D. or other terminal degree preferred) in a relevant social, natural, data science, or professional field;
- More than 12 years of experience in one or more of the above listed sub-fields;
- Minimum 5 years of experience in developing or crisis-affected countries;
- Excellent written and oral communications and presentation skills;
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage large, complex projects effectively and to meet deadlines in high-pressure settings;
- Fluent English required;
- Professional proficiency in one or more of the following languages a plus (Amharic, Arabic , Bengali, French, Hausa, Hindi, Pashto, Pulaar, Portuguese, Russian, Somali , Spanish, Swahili, Urdu).
