Mainstream Renewable Power is a renewable energy development and construction company with operations in South Africa, South America, North America, Ireland, UK offshore and Germany offshore.  Our core business is to develop, build and operate renewable energy plants thereby helping to build a sustainable future – globally and locally. Mainstream has been awarded preferred bidder status for 3 more renewable projects under the South Africa Department of Energy RFP process.  As a Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the projects during late stage development, pre-construction & construction phases to final handover of projects to the Operations team.

Key Responsibilities

• Conceptual Design for Civil Part of Renewable Energy  Power Plants
• Preparation of technical elements of Employer’s Requirements for EPC and Consultant contracts
• Procurement of front end civil engineering (e.g. Geotechnical investigation, flood studies, topographical studies, foundation designs)
• Assessment of constructability of green-field sites
• Assisting with technical design reviews of Contractor’s detailed designs
• Assist the Construction team on civil engineering issues
• Reporting on compliance with relevant design code and contractual obligations
• Auditing quality of the product during the construction phase
• Technical meetings during the construction period
• Interfacing with and managing external consultants and contractors
• Assist in preparation of Civil Design Policy
• Producing technical reports for management
• Ensuring civil engineering activities are carried out to the highest quality standards and in accordance with the relevant health and safety standards

Minimum requirements:

• A degree in Civil Engineering
• At least 5 years experience in a large scale construction projects environment
• Be flexible in terms of working arrangements; national travel and some international travel may be required as part of the job
• Have excellent communication and people skills
• Knowledge of engineering software (AutoCAD, GIS, civil design software)

Preference will be given to Candidates that have the following Experience:

• Experience working for an EPC contractor or consultant in the renewable industry
• Knowledge of wind farm/solar farm civil design and construction methods
• Knowledge of substation and overhead line design and construction methods
• Preparation of technical specifications and other engineering documents
• Preparation of preliminary civil designs for renewable plants
• Input into contract documents & programmes for EPC contracts, turbine supply agreements and consulting engineer agreements
• Experience in tender/bid evaluation
• Comfortable conducting technical & commercial negotiations with EPC contractors
• Knowledge of engineering software (AutoCAD, GIS, civil design software)
