Job Summary
Provides strategic Occupational Health input to ensure Debswana strategies and requirements are incorporated into major projects, from concept stage through to operation. The Occupational Health Manager plays an active role in major projects to ensure proactive identification and management of Occupational Health risks and opportunities. The role drives compliance with internal and external standards through effective reviews and monitoring of timing and scheduling requirements.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Degree in Occupational Health/Occupational Hygiene/ Community Health or equivalent.
• 6 years relevant occupational health management experience in a mining or similar environment, including exposure to occupational hygiene management systems implementation, health risk management and translating occupational health management principles into practical standards, processes and guidelines.
• Basic business and project management skills training.

Key activities

• Provides guidance, strategic support and governance to influence Health and Hygiene performance improvements throughout the projects space.
• Responsible to lead the development of the Health and Hygiene strategy, systems and continuous improvement through effective communication, coaching and mentoring and forming collaborative relationships with team members.
• Leads and facilitates the implementation and/or improvement of Health and Hygiene systems ensuring that they are adapted to the Debswana Health and Hygiene strategy and business Environment.
• Contributes to the Debswana projects S&SD leadership through providing input into the development and implementation of the Health and Hygiene strategy and through monitoring and managing the performance against the project plan.
• Leads, informs, directs and control Health and Hygiene functional staff and assist in the general management of the S&SD function where necessary including budget preparation, cost control, staff capability and performance assessments etc.
• Evaluates, analyses, plans and coordinates the implementation of interventions to address strategic and emerging Health and Hygiene issues and opportunities e.g. collaboration with the mining technical discipline and engagement of external Subject Matter Experts.
• Monitors and reports on Health and Hygiene performance.
• Leads and collaborates with relevant stakeholders, to plan and scope the S&SD integration efforts related to delivery of strategy.
