Job Summary
To develop practical, sustainable, value-creating long term resource depletion strategies which meet the organization’s long-term strategic objectives whilst adhering to safety and environmental standards.

Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Degree in Mining Engineering.
- Ten (10) years post-graduate experience, of which at least five (5) should have been in underground mining and three (3) years at Managerial level in a production environment. Experience in mine planning at Mining Engineer level or above is essential.
- Computer literate in the Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Project. Must have experience in mine planning software (e.g. Datamine, Whittle, GEMS, etc.).
- Leadership Development Programs (e.g. MDP).
- Presentation Skills.
Key Activities
- Interprets departmental objectives and needs and changes in the micro and macro environment and ensures resources are put in place to meet these in the medium to long-term.
- Monitors and controls costs related to projects.
- Determines the capacity of the resource to deliver in line with corporate strategy.
- Develops long-term production plans in line with approved corporate strategy.
- Evaluates the feasibility of mining additional ore sources and replacement/ additional plants for sustainability of the business.
- Investigates various underground mining concepts, geometries and designs.
- Determines the optimal point for transitioning from open pit to underground mining.
- Represent the owner during project studies, provide information to specialist designers and review and approve design solutions.
- Provides information to the MRM section on resource extension requirements and timelines.
- Provides information to treatment plant design teams on long-term ore-type mix for treatability evaluations
- Establishes and manages relationships with specialist companies that provide mine planning tools and services.
- Engages with team members working on various projects to create a strategic planning knowledge pool.
- Develops and implements a system for skills and knowledge transfer to candidates in the mine planning route.
