Job Summary
To assist in the development, coordination and implementation of the Mine’s Safety, Health and Environmental programmes and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Mine standards and other requirements to achieve zero harm.

Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Degree or Diploma - Occupational Health and Safety or Environmental Sciences or Equivalent.
- 3 years post qualification experience in Safety, Health and Environment
- Management Systems ISO14001 & OHSAS 18001 Requirements Courses
- Microsoft applications and use of internet
- Safety Management Training Course or equivalent
- Management Systems Auditing course(ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001)
- Drivers licence
Key Activities
- Recommends and incorporates cost saving initiatives into budgets and controls expenditure within approved parameters.
- Assists in developing, and implementing safety , health and environment standards, policies, procedures and programs
- Provides technical guidance and advice on safety, ,health and environmental issues to stakeholders l
- Conduct monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of the SHE programme and recommend corrective action e.g. on water, energy, training, inspections, waste, rehabilitation, incidents, occupational stressors, etc.
- Raises awareness of current and emerging safety , health and environmental issues amongst relevant stakeholders
- Assists to facilitate and coordinate incident prevention, pollution prevention and waste management, occupational hygiene and traffic management
- Assists to coordinates forums for the identification of environmental aspects, safety and health hazards, risks and impacts assessments and ratings thereof.
- Assist in implementation of SHE management plans and to integrate into the mine wide SHE management program
- Assist in planning of audits, uploading of audit findings in relevant database and closure of audit findings and monitors closing of audit findings by line management.
- Prepares reports on analyses of safety, health and environmental incidents status and trends Facilitates implementation of the safety & risk programme in line with mine policies, procedures standards and relevant legislation to ensure a safe working environment towards zero harm
- Investigates incidents and accidents to determine causes and come up with action plans to avoid recurrence.
- Conducts regular safety & risk Audits and inspections in area of responsibility (safety, health, fire and environment).
- Assisting customers with the interpretation of relevant legislation, policies, procedures and standards
- Participates in conducting occupational hygiene surveys- illumination, noise, ergonomics and dust in line with occupational health standards to ensure a safe working environment.
- Identifies SHE training needs identified during incidents investigations, near hits analysis, Inspections, observations, visible felt leadership, planned task observations, audits, etc.
- Ensure that all documentation regarding accidents and incidents are correctly recorded and processed on completion of investigations.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual SHE reports on SHE performance of area of responsibility.
- Assists with development of initiatives for resource conservation such as water, energy, land, and reduction of safety and health hazards in the work place.
