Job Summary
To charge and assist the Team Lead in blasting activities in accordance with the Mine standards and legal requirements.

Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- O’ levels
- 3 years’ experience in a mining environment.
- Light duty driver’s license
- Safety Awareness training
Key Activities
- Assists in compiling the shift resource requirements which contributes to the sectional budget.
- Demarcates mining faces, drill sites and blasting sites
- Measures and records drilled holes to ensure that they are of the required depth and takes corrective action where necessary
- Prepares and positions primers as required for blasting
- Controls and handles Mobile Manufacturing Unit charging hose and fills blast hole with the prescribed amount of explosive charge and stemming.
- Measures the height of the explosive charge in the hole to ensure that the correct amount of explosive has been pumped down the hole and ensures the correct amount of stemming is placed between the bottom and top charge if there is decking charge
- Tagging of charged holes and connects detonators in accordance with laid out instructions
- Guards against inadvertent entry to charging/charged sites and where explosives are kept, and ensures that entry is only granted when all legal requirements are met
- Loads and offloads explosives to charging and storage areas
- Charges rocks for secondary blasting
- Removes all breakable mine property from the vicinity of the blasting site
- Reconciles the amount of explosives used against the charging plan and inform supervisor of any deviations to the plan
- Circulate communication on blasting (blast memo) to all relevant officials
- Switches on/off blast sirens as instructed by Shift Coordinator Drilling and Blast
- Maintains good housekeeping standards within and outside of the magazine under supervision
- Operates the blast hole filler (backhoe excavator) to stem blasting holes
- Adheres to all safety, health and environmental policies in area of responsibility cognizance of all legal requirements
