Senior Planner

The role

The purpose of this role is to ensure that all planning processses related to projects are adhered to and to ensure that schedules developed align to the plans of the project.

Key performance areas

Produce Project Implementation Schedules for Construction Projects

• Receive tender documents as allocated by the Marketing/Management for construction projects
• Review the drawings to understand the complexity of the work to be undertaken
• Analyse the scope of the project, define projects goals, define project plan and review delivery periods to input into the schedule
• Plan for the schedule in accordance with the client requirements in respect of:
• Scope of work
• Logical sequence
• Duration of various activities
• Compile a project schedule and submit for review and input to the Project Controls Manager, Project Manager and for final submission to the Construction Manager or client
• Produce the project implementation schedule in accordance with policies and procedures
• Produce the project implementation schedule in accordance with the allocated time frame

Validate Information

• Visit sites, fabrication shops and manufacturers to determine if the information received on progress measurements and the forecast end date for the project is valid
• Determine if there is sufficient physical and human resources on site and liaise with the relevant role players to address insufficient resourcing which could impact the planning an and project delivery

Perform Planning During Projects

• Analyse and review the project implementation schedule on an on-going basis throughout the project in order to make planning recommendations to the Construction Manager and Project Manager
• Attend regular progress meetings with suppliers and clients to feedback on the status of the project
• Ensure adherence to planning procedures during the implementation of projects

Produce Reports

• Update the project implementation schedule and include a written report on a bi-weekly basis to highlight areas of concern and trends per construction project
• Submit the schedule and report to Project Controls Manager, Construction Manager and Project Manager
• Archive reports for future reference purposes
• Produce reports in accordance with policies, procedures and legal requirements
• Produce reports within the allocated time frame.

Your profile

• Minimum 4 years post Grade 12 Technical qualification e.g. Drawing Office
• Trade certificate would be advantageous e.g. Electrician, Fitter, Civil
• Planning & Scheduling Professional certification would be advantageous e.g. AACE certified professional
• Minimum 8 years’ planning experience in projects
• Willingness to travel sites as required.
