2. Background
AUCSSSD is seeking an experienced guard supervisor at the GSA5 level to supervisea team of security personnel in providing security and safety protection forAfrican Union premises, property and personnel. Under the guidance and directsupervision of AU Security and Safety Division (SSSD), the Guard Supervisoroversees Security operations at the premises including all related activities toensure compliance with security and safety procedures of the African Union.
3. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Conductcontinuous supervision of Security Guards assigned and ensure that AU accesscontrol procedures are properly implemented.
· ImplementSecurity Service policy through the Security Contractor representative.
· Recordcontractor attendance and post coverage for monthly submission to superiors andensure that such records are properly filed.
· Ensurethat routine patrols are conducted within the assigned premises (In and out).
· Ensurethat up-to-date records of the Guards patrol along with other relevantactivities are logged and kept (Visitors log, Cargo log, Equipment In/out logetc.)
· Patroland inspect all locations supervised.
· Ensurethat supervised Security Guards, are familiar with and conducting their dutiesin accordance with the AU security policies and procedures.
· Investigateand report all incidents on any AU premises that involve a breach of securityprocedures, injuries or theft.
· Assigndaily duties to security personnel, ensuring that posts are manned at alltimes; intervene personally to resolve problems or refer them immediately tothe SSSD Management.
· Instructpersonnel on shift in the performance of security services, including AU OfficeEmergency and Security Procedures, control and physical security for thepremises, use of equipment and operation of the automated alarm and videosurveillance systems, where they exist.
· Liaisedaily with the SSSD Operations Officer and Shift Leaders.
· Reportfor duty as and when necessary (on call).
· Compileand submit the Security Guard reports weekly report (when required) and monthlyreports of the supervisor’s detailing activities and statistics in his/her areaof responsibility.
· Ensurethat building safety plan is maintained and regular building evacuationexercises conducted.
· Respondand coordinate security related incidents involving AU staff and eligibledependents.
· Performother related duties as required.
4. EDUCATIONALQUALIFICATIONS:
Candidatesmust have a University Diploma in MilitaryCollege or Police Academy. Specialist security management qualification wouldbe an asset. A higher qualification will be an added advantage.
Work Experience: A minimum of five(5) ofprogressively responsible security experience (e.g. Military, Police orGovernmental or Private Security Service) or 4 years of supervisory experiencein civilian sector on operational level in International Organization orGovernment Department. Experience on command/managerial position would be anasset (Senior NCO, Lieutenant or above) in a police or military organization;Previous experience in managing a guard force.
Other Skills: Selected candidate must be familiar with map reading, HF and VHFradio, good oral and written communication skills, conducting training, and be able to respond on call on a 24/7basis

Technological Awareness - Fully proficient in MS Word andworking knowledge of MS Excel.
Teamwork - Good interpersonal skills; abilityto work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity andrespect for diversity. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effectivework relationships with the programme, procurement, human resourcecounterparts, and client departments.
Communication - Ability to write in a clear andconcise manner and to communicate effectively. Good communication skills totrain Security Guards.
5. LANGUAGEREQUIREMENT:
Proficiencyin one of the African Union working languages. Proficiency of one or severalother working language(s) would be an added advantage.
6. TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:
The appointment will be made onfixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelvemonths be consider as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will befor a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performanceand deliverables.
7. LEAST REPRESENTATIVE COUNTRIES:

9. REMUNERATION:
Indicative basic salary of US$ 14,852.00per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% ofbasic salary), Housing allowance US$ 13,248.00 per annum), education allowance (75% of tuition and othereducation related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum ofUS$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff ofthe Commission.
