The AfricanUnion, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged withspearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development bypromoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples ofAfrica and African States as well as developing a new partnership worldwide.Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking toachieve these objectives, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacityto deliver by, among others, the implementation of new organization structureand the filling of vacant posts.
TheCommission of the African Union invites applications from citizens of MemberStates for the position of Desk Officer, NGO Forums Association in the Directorate of CIDO.

2. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direct supervision of theHead, Civil Society Division and ultimately, the Director of CIDO, he/she willbe responsible for the following:
a. Serveas a focal point for all matters related to Political Parties, CSO groups andassociations, Pan African Clubs and Associations;
b. Coordinateinputs of civil society groups in this area and monitor and analyze political,military and Socio-Economic development related to these processes;
c. Assistthe process of ECOSOCC linkages with the AU Commission, governance anddevelopment agencies in Africa and counterpart agencies in Africa andcounterpart agencies of ECOSOCC in other regional bodies;
d. Supportimplementation of related sectorial clusters of ECOSOCC;
e. Assistin implementation of related action plans and programs and activities of theDirectorate;
f. Preparereports, speaking notes, briefs, draft decisions and resolutions and assist inthe preparation and organization of meetings, conferences and consultation withpartners;
g. Writeletters, document speeches and other correspondences as required by thesupervisor on crucial and sensitive issues of concern to the supervisor andDirector;
h. Assistwith basic research, monitoring and following-up of decisions;
i. Performother duties as assigned by the Director or other supervisors as designated;
4. EDUCATIONALQUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have a UniversityBachelor Degree in Science,Political Science, International Relations, Law, Sociology or other relevantfields. A higher qualification will be an added advantage.
5. WORKEXPERIENCE:
Candidatemust have a minimum of five (5) years of post-qualificationexperience in national, regional or international organizations, with specialemphasis on policy analysis and civil society matters and concerns.
6. OTHER RELEVANTSKILLS:
- Becomputer literate;
- Be able to work under pressure,particularly as a professional civil servant in a multi-cultural environment;
- Demonstrate professionalism andability to undertake studies and analytical skills associated with gooddecision-making;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
7. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:
Proficiencyin one of the African Union working languages. Proficiency of one or severalother working language(s) would be an added advantage.
8. TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:
The appointment will be made onfixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelvemonths shall be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contractwill be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactoryperformance and deliverables.
9. LEAST REPRESENTATIVE COUNTRIES:
Candidatesfrom the following least represented countries are encouraged to apply:Eretria, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Cape Verde, Comoros, Congo (DRC),Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Mauritania, Namibia, Sahrawi ArabRepublic, SaoTome and Principe, Seychelles and Somalia.

11. REMUNERATION:
Indicative basic salary of US$ 29,287.00per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% ofbasic salary), Housing allowance US$ 14,414.40per annum), educationallowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for everyeligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc forinternationally recruited staff of the Commission.
