Mining Engineer – tenable in Letlhakane (Ref: KDM 0012)

Job Summary
Reporting to the Mining Manager, the Mining Engineer is responsible for providing technical support and guidance to mining operations. In addition, the role provides assistance to the Mining Manager in the administration of the turnkey Mining Contract.

Requirements

Effectiveness Areas;

• To monitor and evaluate mining operations to ensure compliance with agreed technical standards, specifications and quality assurance systems.
• To interpret and implement the mining strategy for the section to meet the operation’s medium and long term plans.
• To initiate, monitor and control functional projects to ensure attainment of desired results, e.g. Mine to Mill.
• To ensure optimal implementation of the mine plan through periodic evaluation of operational data in line with long term plans.
• To search for and trial new ideas and technologies to enhance and improve the mining processes and efficiencies.
• To develop short interval controls to effectively manage production performance.
• To manage key effectiveness areas of the Mining Contractor by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary.
• To ensure compliance to all relevant statutes such as the Explosives Act and Mines, Quarries, Works & Machinery Acts.
• To drive the development of Junior Mining Engineers as per the approved developmental programme and career path.
• To drive and uphold all safety, health and environment imperatives for the section.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering
• Five (5) years operational and technical experience in an open pit mining environment with at least two (2) years in a similar position,with demonstrable results.
• Excellent appreciation of Mine Planning and Mining Systems.
• Valid Botswana Open Pit Blasting License
• Valid Driver’s License

Company profile

Boteti Mining (Pty.) Ltd. operates the Karowe Diamond Mine in Letlhakane in the Boteti sub district. The plant was commissioned in April 2012 and has gone on to achieve exceptional performance. It is the source of some truly special diamonds. The plant completed a major upgrade that includes introduction of X-Ray Transmission (XRT) technology in diamond recovery in 2015. This is adding to the already existing innovative application of autogenous milling in diamond processing.
