The global trading system could be a daunting prospect especially for the poorest and most vulnerable countries which is why you, in this new role, would be so valued and valuable. You will be focused on monitoring and analysing key trade-related developments, preparing advice and recommendations which benefit member countries. Also, you will undertake empirical trade policy work, manage similar research projects, and disseminate the findings strategically to ensure maximum impact.
Your post-graduate degree in economics, including a significant applied policy research element and quantitative skills, should have been followed by at least seven years in trade policy analysis. This should have included managing analytical and advocacy projects; extensive use of quantitative data techniques; familiarity with WTO rules and the functioning of the global trading system; and a record in the publication of international trade policy analysis.
Analytical with excellent drafting skills, you must be up-to-date with developments in international trade and be knowledgeable about multilateral and prominent trade negotiation issues, with the ability to relate theory to practice and use data and quantitative information to develop practical solutions.
