Regional trade agreements cover more than half of international trade and operate alongside the multilateral trading system. Yet, negotiating an appropriate arrangement and achieving effective regional integration could be a daunting prospect especially for the poorest and most vulnerable countries which is why you, in this new role, would be so valued and valuable. You will be focused on monitoring and analysing regional trade and integration issues, and communicating technical analysis in such a way that policymakers and trade negotiators have the full understanding necessary to maximise their effectiveness.
Building on our efforts-to-date, you will undertake analytical work on regional trading arrangements; manage policy research and capacity-building projects; and provide technical inputs into negotiating issues.
Your post-graduate degree in economics, should have been followed by at least seven years in regional trade policy and negotiation analysis. Further, you must be familiar with major developments and negotiation issues under different regional trading arrangements involving Commonwealth members and have a background of managing analytical and advocacy projects.
Well organised, analytical and an effective policy advocate, you have outstanding interpersonal strengths which include verbal, written and networking skills and the ability to respond rapidly and to be effective under pressure.
