Field of activity
The Programme for Microfinance System Development in the Democratic Republic of the Congo primarily aims to improve the conditions for a more stable and inclusive financial system. In doing so, the necessary conditions are created at macro level to enable measures at meso and micro level to increase access to financial services more effectively. In the area of financial inclusion, consumers are supported by providing them with basic financial education and consumer protection. These approaches on the demand side are necessary to enable the poor and disadvantaged sections of the population in particular to make informed decisions, to avail themselves of financial services to their best advantage and to protect themselves against risks. In the area of financial sector stability, the Central Bank of the Congo (BCC) is given advice on introducing new structures and processes concerning internal risk management. Capacity development is also being promoted at the BCC in other selected areas too, e.g. change management and cash processing. In connection with the law on credit information bureaus, the technical cooperation (TC) project is helping to develop a legal framework for a comprehensive credit bureau that also includes non-financial institutions.
